New Feature on BHL: Add Comments to a Book!

UPDATE: A new and enhanced commenting system is being planned for BHL. The commenting system described below has been disabled as of July 5, 2016. | We are pleased to announce that we have added the ability to add comments to books in the BHL website! This new feature will allow you to easily share your discoveries while reading BHL books, highlight interesting content, post your expertise for others to see, engage in conversations about BHL books from directly within BHL, and easily discover all of the great posts from your fellow biodiversity-enthusiasts.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the books in BHL? Or maybe find out what people are saying on social media about our collections? Or perhaps you’d like to connect with other BHL-enthusiasts? We’re excited to announce that today, as part of our Mining Biodiversity project, we’ve launched two new features on BHL that will allow you to do all of the above! These features are Altmetric and MyTweeps. Altmetric is a UK-based company that offers tools to help track online mentions of a library, publisher, or other entities’ content.

Recent crowdsourcing initiatives are revolutionizing scientific research, allowing the public to help scientists and researchers document, identify, and better understand biodiversity. For example, the Atlas of Living Australia’s FieldData program allows anyone to contribute sightings, photos and observational data to help researchers and natural resource management groups collect and manage biodiversity data.
